NEWPORT BEACH, CA - Happy Memorial Day...we decided to "beat the rush" to the beach and get there by 10 a.m. Only problem is, the rush is probably from 8:30 - 9:30. We had to hunt for a parking space for a bit, but otherwise had quite a fine time.

Jenna just wanted to dig in the sand at first, but by the end of the day she was waist deep in the "oh-shun." She found lots of seashells and made a couple sand crabs with her new toys...all in all she was quite busy, so busy that once she got home she took a 4 hour nap - woohoo!

Time for the annual trip to the San Diego Zoo, but forgot the camera...oops. We bought a disposable camera at the Zoo, but it might be a bit before we get the pictures back.

Stories and highlights to follow once we get the pictures back...we'll see if any of them turned out...

We went to Fullerton Railroad Days on Saturday. As you may know, the Amerige brothers convinced railroad agent George Fullerton to route the tracks through their town -- and the economic future of this developing town was secure. For more information on the annual event you can go here.

We got there about 10 a.m. which was too late for the pancake breakfast, but too early fro the tri-tip sandwich. After a quick tour of the booths, Jenna decided she wanted to watch the model trains run for a bit.

Her favorite part was when the trains would travel through the tunnels, to which she would shout, "Unna, unna, unna!!" (Translated this means, "under," which she also says anytime she finds herself beneath the kitchen table). We toured the BNSF Diesel Locomotive (Jenna rang the bell) and a couple other cars that are currently being restored. Jenna got to ride the "Kiddie-Train" in her newly acquired engineer hat (pink, of course).

Finally, at about 12:15 we decided to look for some lunch, but went "off-campus" to do so. It had been a while since we had all been to Heroes, and since it was within walking distance we headed back across Harbor Blvd. We like Heroes because of their "healthy" portions - which I suppose is actually "un-healthy" since we usually get burgers and fries. This time, though, I went with the side of fruit, since I knew Jenna could have some too.

After Heroes, we headed home for naps - it had been quite a morning, after all...

We went to the Orange County Family Pet Expo last weekend. Notable only because, well, we don't own a pet. We just went because we thought it would be a cheap alternative for the zoo. Seriously.

Jenna did like the small petting zoo they had set up. She enjoyed brushing the animals with the supplied hairbrushes...so long as the animals remained still. Any false moves from the big mean goats and she was hiding behind mommy in a flash. We did walk through a couple adoption areas, but gave up that idea when Jenna seemed most interested in the rats. We might break down and get a cat in the next year or so, but I'm pretty sure you won't find any rodents living on the premises any time soon -- not intentionally anyways.
